New York Metro-based Internet, phone, and business solution provider, Skywire Networks (Skywire), supports New York City-based business communications integrator, Wall Street Information Technologies Management (WSITM), in jointly bringing 1Gbps high-speed Internet service to one of WSITM’s tech firm customers. The company was about to move into 245 W. 17th Street, a newly erected building in Chelsea that had not yet been provisioned with a fiber-optic line, as digging was not a viable option.

On behalf of its customer, the WSITM team had reached out to several of the large Tier One Internet and Telecom service providers that cover the Chelsea area. However, according to estimates WSITM received, the effort to trench a new underground fiber-optic line to the building proved prohibitive. The high cost of digging a new line, the extended installation lead times they were quoted, along with several anticipated construction delays and other significant obstacles, all meant a service deployment date that couldn’t be realistically achieved before the start of the company’s lease.

“Having faced similar installation scenarios before, where digging new fiber-optic lines was not an option,” recalls Gregory Gong, CEO of WSITM, “I had our team reach out to Skywire Networks, whose overhead Fixed Wireless rooftop radio network had solved this puzzle for us more than once before. Since their aerial network connects overhead, from building-to-building across the city, we are able to connect customers with high-speed broadband connectivity, without having to depend on underground fiber. This is a major provisioning advantage, and win-win for us and our customers.”

In less than two weeks, from initial contact to GO-LIVE, Skywire Networks had drawn up plans, mounted its line-of-sight radio on the rooftop, configured network routing, and wired the building for 1Gbps symmetrical broadband—all weeks before the customer’s lease start date. “We knew it was a crazy ask,” admits Gong, “but Skywire knocked it out of the park. Literally, they were on the roof 48 hours after we first made contact.”

As members of Skywire’s PartnerUP! channel reseller program, business communications system integrators such as WSITM approach Skywire when the cost, construction, and physical access challenges of digging new fiber-optic lines presents a CAPEX obstacle too high to overcome. With towers and hubs spread across the tri-state area, Skywire’s Fixed Wireless high-speed broadband network enables businesses and commercial property owners throughout the New York Metro, and beyond, to no longer need to cover the cost of a fiber dig, nor wait until someone else does.
